Below is a visual guide depicting the typical bulkhead connection points for the devices that are used in conjunction with the Deep Trekker™ Pivot. Refer to this guide if you are ever in doubt of which bulkhead to connect a specific device to. Only the tether port and battery charge ports will need to be connected/disconnected during normal use of the ROV. Thrusters, cameras, sensors, and sonar connections should never be disconnected from the bulkheads unless it is necessary for service or replacement of parts. Always ensure your bulkhead connections are fully engaged and tight before deploying the ROV and ensure that unused ports have port covers installed.
Ballast plates on the pivot can be added or removed by loosening or removing the thumb screws on the bottom outside corners of the ROV as shown below.
Deep Trekker ROVs leave the factory ballasted for neutral buoyancy in freshwater. When you deploy in saltwater or brackish water, the vehicle will float because the surrounding water is denser — so you need to add ballast to bring it back to neutral.
The math is simple: add a percentage of the vehicle's weight in ballast equal to the percent increase in water density.
Standard seawater is roughly 2.5% denser than freshwater, so add about 2.5% of the vehicle's weight in ballast.
